In a post-Guardians of the Galaxy world where Walkmans (the correct plural of Walkman) are now being sold on ebay for $800 (and $600 for the broken ones! seriously!) the little tape labels out there have received a little more attention. The fact Starlord’s choice of Walkman isn’t a very good example of a Sony Walkman at all (seriously Starlord, a TPS-L2? You were abducted in 1988, not 1979!) doesn’t matter. Suddenly, the corners of the internet where Tapeheads hide and scurry from the light, are the places to be. Questions like “hey, I am new to this forum, I have a woolworths cassette player from 1993, can someone tell me what an AA battery is?” are going to be myriad, but I say, the more people banging on about cassette culture the better.
Which brings me to the matter in hand, POST/POP is levelling up and due to popular demand WE NOW HAVE T-SHIRTS. They are lovely just on their own, featuring the famous POST/POP wolf logo (technically it’s not a wolf, its a “Wolfbra”, half wolf/ half zebra!) but I pondered to myself as I stared out of a conveniently placed window, “How am I going to make my shirts look even cooler? How do I get guys AND girls to buy it?” and then I realised I only have one answer to everything… so I called POST/POP artist HETTIE and she happily modelled it.
I went down to Brighton and we took photos everywhere in between dragging her around to look for tapes with me, eating cheesy chips/aubergine burgers and talking our way into Laserquest for some doomed UV photos.
In case you’re new to this site, an artist named Jamie Taylor designed our logo (great guy); Hand screenprinted by Jonas at Tyrant Design in Newcastle (another great guy); and printed on American Apparel shirts. They really are as soft as someone else’s pillows, so you don’t get that scratchy feeling you may get with some printing techniques.
This first batch is limited to 25 shirts and come in small, medium and large. HETTIE is wearing the LARGE size like a dress, so you can do that if you are a girl. If you are a guy, get medium or large. Medium fits me fine, but large is good for lounging.
I know what you are thinking. You are thinking “Jed, why should I buy these POST/POP tshirts? Yes, they look amazing, and Yes they are suprisingly good value for money and YES, HETTIE has made me want to buy it for the lovely lady in my life, but why should I buy a shirt that will make me look cool as ice? I really don’t want the attention…” Good question, and unfortunately I do not have an answer, as by the time you asked that question they are probably all gone.
Stay tuned for Sweatshirts in September, Glow in the Dark tshirts in October and multi-colour shirts in November! (For Xmas I am just going to go to Lapland with a sharpie and tag the logo on Santa’s face).
In the next 2 days, I am going to talk about the next POST/POP release. You may have heard rumours, and they are right. Bloody Hell I am excited!
My name is Jed Shepherd.
